Mantua, its nature and the environment

Embraced by the Mincio river that here widens to form three lakes, Mantua charms the visitor for its natural environment too: the green reeds and the blue water provide a setting for swans, herons and seagulls which, together with the summer blooming of the lotus flowers creates an incomparable contrast of colours and sounds.
The river is an area of great natural interest, but also historical, devotional and cultural as well. Since 1984 it has been a protected area thanks to the establishment of the "Parco del Mincio".

The town has a number of parks and gardens inviting tourists and residents to relax in the open air. Now there is a "Science Park" on the Lago di Mezzo lakeshore where children can experiment with educational games.
